Match the coloured gems falling from above, bust 'em up with the power gems and send counter gems over to your human or computer opponents, filling up their screen and sending them running home to mummy.
The graphics do the job, but they're horribly dated, blocky, and in hi-res seem to slow down the whole game. The StrcetFighter element is seemingly purely cosmetic: you don't really control the characters in the middle, in fact you don't even have time to appreciate their martial non-artistry, because you're too busy matching gems.
The plinky-plonk music is grating and the giggly twee sound effects send shivers down the spine and out through the back passage. If you want a Tetris-style game, then go and play Tetris. If you want a beat 'em up. Only once in a great while, a game will hit the market that can be labeled revolutionary. These games usually become smash hits, and then the market becomes flooded with games that mimic the style or at least follow the same game mechanics.
One of the games that carry the label of revolutionary is Tetris. This game was so simple, yet terribly addictive. I still find myself sitting in front of the computer on an important business call, no less , playing a quick game while listening to the person on the other end of the phone ramble on about something or another. Why am I bringing all of this up? Please note that I chose to call it a spin-off, not a ripoff. Basically, Capcom has taken Street Fighter Alpha and Night Warriors and combined them with the feel of Tetris , only with more strategy involved.
I know you are probably thinking, "huh, I don't get it First off, it may be a little deceiving saying that the game is a combination of the above-mentioned titles. The only real connection to these titles is that you pick characters to play as.
If you perform specific moves, the character will do an animated attack not controllable by the player on the opponent's character. This is more for show than anything else, but it does add a different element to the game.

But that's only the stuff that gets released over here.. You have to remember, this is the country that came up with Tagamotchi, a bleeping maniacal pet-on-a-keyring, all those Godzilla vs the Fifty Foot Moth Bloke movies, and much much more. I mean, what do they put in the water over there? Because whatever it is, it should be force-fed to the staff of all those game companies that keep churning out Command and Conquer clones.
Created by Capcom , it features the Street Fighter and Dark Stalkers fighters in a highly addictive gem-dropping puzzle fest. The idea behind it is that the fighters are battling for supremacy, but instead of just kicking seven bells out of each other, they're using their brains.
Apparently their brains haven't been turned to jelly by blows to the head administered during the Street Fighter games - perhaps they're genetically engineered to have thick skulls or something. There are eight ordinary fighters and three hidden fighters to choose from, including Ken, Ryu, Chun-Li, Morrigan and Akuma. But they're a little out of shape Well, one of the things that are popular in Japan are Super Deformed Characters. To create a Super Deformed Character, you take any character, from an animation or a game, increase the size of their head, and shorten their body.
And so all the characters in Puzzle Fighter are drawn in this style, which gives the game a very cutesy feel. The way the game works is that there are two boxes on either side of the screen, one for you and one for the character you're fighting.
In the middle of the screen are the two fighters, set against the background of the character you're facing, pretty much like Street Fighter 2. As soon as the announcer yells 'Fight! You can rotate the gems, and move them left to right, till they hit the bottom of the screen. Soon, a crash gem will come along, which is a circular gem - drop the crash gem onto any gem of the same colour, and that gem will disappear. Capcom, known for its collection of fighting games, enters its ported puzzler into the fray.
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, complete with the characters from past Capcom titles, blends the customization possibilities of a PC with the proven enjoyment of the PlayStation original.
The end result is a fast and furious competition demanding foresight, dexterity, and some luck. The "Fighter II" reference in the title comes from the miniature versions of the famous combatants of Street Fighter II that duel it out in a center column between the two play fields. Capcom, king of the character crossover games e.
Each character requires a different strategy, adding another facet to the furious action. Score a combination of gem crashes and be rewarded with a special move from your character. The tiny avatars taunt each other, and it's easy to get attached to the pint-sized pugilists. Be careful not to get distracted by their antics!
